The San Diego Sharks of The Basketball League are taking an innovative approach to carving out a spot for themselves with area sports fans: free game tickets and free popcorn.
The idea? Lure fans in to see professional basketball in an atmosphere that will feature a DJ, a mascot, fun halftime entertainment and a family-friendly environment.Minor league sports leagues and teams seemingly come and go the way most folks change socks. Indeed, the 45-team league has been around since 2018 and seen several franchises open and fold already, including a pair of teams that were based in San Diego.
Cooks coached the now defunct San Diego Guardians to a Western Division title last season and has long-standing roots in the area as a coach and owner of a personal training business. The Sharks enter tonight’s away game against the SoCal Moguls — who play at Torrey Pines High School — with a record of 0-2 and will play a total of 12 home games during a 23-game regular season that concludes May 29.
