On Sunday, the San Jose Sharks acquired forward Egor Afanasyev from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Ozzy Wiesblatt .The 23-year-old Afanasyev led the Predators’ AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, with 27 goals and 54 points last season, including 14 multi-point games throughout the season. In 15 playoff games, he had five goals and four assists for nine points. He appeared in two NHL games with the Predators in February.
Before turning professional, Afansyev played with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires, scoring 31 goals and 67 points in 62 games in 2019-20, as well as two seasons with the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2017-18 and 2018-19.Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Wiesblatt spent the majority of the season with the Sharks’ AHL team, the San Jose Barracuda, scoring three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 34 games.
Wiesblatt spent his junior career with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders, winning a league championship in 2018-19. He ended with 58 goals and 121 assists for 179 points in 195 career WHL games across four full seasons.
