WASHINGTON — Allies of former President Donald Trump rushed to his defense Thursday following the announcement of a guilty verdict in his criminal trial, blasting the entire process as a political sham.only moments after the jury made its decision public.
“This conviction should be immediately reversed upon appeal, and this legal tyranny will be summarily rejected by the American people on November 5th,” Lake said. Sen. Rick Scott , one of three candidates to succeed McConnell in the Senate Republican leadership, described the verdict as election interference., who is close to Trump.Before the jury’s decision was made public, though, one Republican who is no fan of Trump urged restraint.
