Juno Award-winning calypso/reggae/soca band Kobo Town is the project of Trinidadian Canadian singer-songwriter Drew Gonsalves. Over the course of its three albums the group has explored themes ranging from class politics to life at sea, always with wit and swinging hard. The band is astonishingly fluid moving between genres and styles often in one song, with Gonsalves acting as the main drive and ringleader. Not much music this dance happy also delivers a strong message of social consciousness.
Tony Wilson — Looking Back Large Ensemble, Multi-Media Event, Concert, Book Launch and CD ReleaseWhen: The Fox CabaretB.C.-based jazz composer, bandleader, guitarist and author Tony Wilson has been an important fixture on the Canadian jazz scene for decades. In his latest memoir, Looking Back, he documents an 18 month-long incarceration at the St. Joseph’s Training School for Juvenile Delinquents. It’s a rough ride and clearly did much to shape the artist that developed afterwards.
