“My life has been far less negatively affected from outward cannabis use than many people that I’m friends with who are not white,” Seth Rogen said. — via TheGrowthOp

Some things never change, including the War on Drugs, which disproportionately targets people of colour and continues to be racist, argues Seth Rogen.

“The only reason cannabis is illegal is for racist reasons, and we have to acknowledge that and be aware of that,” he said during Reimagining Justice: Race, Cannabis and Policing, an online event organized by Marijuana Policy Project and sponsored by Pax and Houseplant, a weed brand founded by Rogen and Evan Goldberg in collaboration with Canopy Growth.

Despite white and Black people consuming weed at about the same rates, this level playing field buckles when it comes to arrests for cannabis possession. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Black people are 3.6 times more likely than whites to be arrested. Companies in the legal cannabis industry are hardly reflective of the general population, many of which are headed by white men.
