Serenity’s mother — who Postmedia is not identifying to protect the identity of her surviving children who were in care with Serenity — said Cochard’s words are gratifying after years of people questioning her parenting.Article content Serenity spent two years with a non-Indigenous family with whom her mother maintained a positive relationship. While she always aimed to get her children back, a social worker eventually told her she was not meeting expectations and that her children risked being adopted out separately if the mother couldn’t find a family member to take them in.
“In 2010, she was still very young,” Cochard wrote. “She was never given the benefit of the doubt. Although she would have received the report, at no time was she given the opportunity to tell her side of the story.”Article content
