The boys were at the Kabul airstrip saying goodbye to their father, who was working for the previous government and feared for his life as the Taliban seized power.
During the chaos, an explosion occurred, and while the father was locked outside the fence, the boys were pushed with the crowd and ended up on a plane destined for Calgary, Canada. This was the first flight for both boys, leaving them bewildered and terrified about their future. They arrived in Calgary under the care of Child and Family Services. A family friend reached out to Mahdi Adreshy and his wife Noushin Ghasempour, who had recently lost their 19-year-old son and were looking for a way to channel their grief into something positive. Understanding the boys' plight, they stepped in to help, providing support and a sense of normalcy in their new and frightening world. The boys, who spoke no English at the time, gradually learned the language and adjusted to life in Canada. Adreshy and Ghasempour made the boys an integral part of their family, taking them on outings, enrolling them in school, and guiding them through the complexities of their new environment.Despite their efforts, the emotional toll of separation has been significant for both the boys and their parents. The boys' mother, Frozan, shared her anguish through a video chat translator, describing the constant fear and uncertainty of not knowing when, or if, she would be reunited with her children. She revealed how the police had threatened to deport her husband and son back to Afghanistan, leaving her terrified and heartbroken. However, Frozan expressed gratitude for the loving care her boys have received in Canada, stating that she hopes one day to start a new chapter with them. Meanwhile, Adreshy and Ghasempour remain dedicated to helping the family reunite. They have launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the family's visa expenses in Pakistan and are appealing to the Canadian government for assistance. They hold onto hope that their efforts will soon lead to the boys and their parents being together again
