However, by the end of the first week, she had 50 members, and by the month's conclusion, the group had swelled to 200.
This rapid growth prompted her to recognize the magnitude of the issue and her responsibility to assist other women. The group now boasts around 2,600 members who engage in discussions about shared living and advocate for senior citizens' rights. The group's website provides a questionnaire and profile viewing options, allowing members to connect and explore potential living arrangements. They also organize meetups in diverse communities.Since its inception in 2019, Dunn states that they have facilitated connections for over 60 women, enabling them to find safe and secure housing situations. This achievement is especially noteworthy considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, during which senior women were less inclined to meet in person. Dunn highlights that 285,000 single senior women in Ontario reside in unaffordable housing. For many, the opportunity to share meals and engage in companionship alleviates feelings of loneliness. Dunn personally experienced the profound impact of companionship after her husband's passing. Living with two other women provided her with much-needed support and alleviated her isolation.The group is actively conducting three webinars for Durham residents on January 24, 25, and 27.
