'Link Crew' greets Grade 9s with smiles, cheers and everything they need to know about the first year of high school
To ease what can be a bewildering experience for Grade 9 students, seniors in high school Link Crew programs across the Sault and Algoma District welcomed those beginning high school as the 2023-24 school year began Wednesday morning.
“When I was in Grade 9 the Link Crew helped me a lot and made me feel welcome and now I want to help other Grade 9s feel welcome and join the St. Mary’s Knights family,” said St. Mary’s College Grade 11 student and Link Crew member Oliver Brown, speaking to SooToday. “It was definitely a lot different than what it is today. Back in the day everyone just came into the school for the first time and it was trial by fire.”“The Link Crew does so much work to make sure that the Grade 9 students coming in feel safe and comfortable. The Grade 9s have such careful attention placed on them. It’s a safe family environment for them.”
