High-level bureaucrats testified in front of the House government operations committee amid a contentious process over selecting which aircraft will replace Canada’s aging fleet of surveillance planes. They sought to shed some light on a procurement procedure that has come under scrutiny in the face of rumours that the feds are considering a sole-source approach, which would directly award the contract to Boeing. The American aerospace giant manufactures the P-8 Poseidon, a plane currently used by each member of the Five Eyes security alliance, except Canada, as well as several other NATO allies.
