The Ottawa Senators have reached an agreement with the National Capital Commission to buy over 10 acres of land to build a new rink and arena district at LeBreton Flats.

Sep 20, 2024 at 10:21 AM EThave reached an agreement with the National Capital Commission to buy over 10 acres of land to build a new rink and arena district at LeBreton Flats.“This agreement with CSDI and the Senators is great news for the National Capital Region," NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum said. "The major events centre and arena district will bring life and excitement to LeBreton Flats.

“We are pleased to take this next step in the process with the National Capital Commission," Senators president and CEO Cyril Leeder added. "Our ultimate desire is to build a world-class, multi-event centre in the heart of Ottawa-Gatineau that can be enjoyed for generations to come. Today represents an important step towards achieving that goal and we are committed to working with the NCC and other key stakeholders to make this a reality.

The Senators were named the preferred bidder for the LeBreton Flats project back in June of 2022, and a memorandum with a group led by the team was signed for a"major event centre." The Senators’ bid was chosen ahead of what the National Capital Commission said were “multiple” other expressions of interest for the land, which lies just west of Ottawa’s Centretown neighbourhood, close to the city's core.

The NCC had set Sept. 20 as the deadline for an agreement to be made while the Senators retain preferred bidder status on the land.
