Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer continues to believe in the Ottawa-Gatineau region despite delays in securing a new arena. While negotiations for a new arena in Ottawa's LeBreton Flats remain stalled, Andlauer announced two pre-season games in Quebec City, expressing a desire to see the Senators play regular season games there as well.
Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer expressed continued optimism about the Ottawa-Gatineau region despite ongoing delays in negotiations for a new arena. Andlauer, speaking to reporters after the announcement that the team will play two pre-season games in Quebec City in September, voiced disappointment over the lack of agreement on a new arena construction at the LeBreton Flats site near downtown Ottawa.
The team, the National Capital Commission, and the league had previously envisioned the 10-acre site as the location for a state-of-the-art arena, but significant hurdles, including construction costs and design complexities, remained to be overcome before construction could commence. 'It's a great first step, but we've got a lot of work ahead of us here,' Senators president and chief executive officer Cyril Leeder stated at the time. Despite the pre-season games scheduled for Quebec City this fall, Andlauer, who acquired the team in 2023, revealed his desire to see the Senators host regular season games there as well. However, he firmly asserted that a move to Quebec City is not a viable option, even if the LeBreton Flats arena project faces continued setbacks. 'We'll start with the two preseason games and we'll go from there. For me, that's the vision,' Andlauer explained. 'If we can play in Sweden, we can play in Quebec.'Quebec City served as the home of the Quebec Nordiques from 1972 to 1995, when the team relocated to Colorado and became the Avalanche
