Ottawa has gone just 2\u002D6\u002D1 without the veteran Russian defenceman, who has been sidelined because of an unspecified upper\u002Dbody injury.
The Devils have been perhaps the biggest surprise in the NHL so far, extending their win streak to 11 games thanks to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Before Zub went down, Oct. 27 against the Minnesota Wild, he was part of the top pairing with Thomas Chabot, regularly topping 23 minutes per game due to his stellar defence. “He’s an unbelievable defenceman, so hard to play against,” Batherson said. “He’s so strong down low and makes great plays. If I was on the other team, I wouldn’t want to play against him. It has been a big loss with him out. It’s going to be a huge help.” “They have a lot of speed up front, a lot of skill,” Batherson said. “They hang on to the puck, they make plays and they forecheck hard. And they don’t give up much, either. We have to be finishing our checks so they can’t wind it up.”
