Senators GM Pierre Dorion on acquiring Jakob Chychrun:
“Being able to add a quality player like Jakob Chychrun really bodes well for us.”
While he first approached Coyotes’ GM Bill Armstrong about a change of scenery in Nov. 2021, Dorion may have picked up the phone earlier to see if there was a deal to be made for Chychrun. “That was something that was important to us. We’ve made a lot of good picks,” said Dorion. “It’s unfortunate that we won’t have a first-round pick this year, but there have been years where we’ve had multiple first-round picks.Article content
The Senators didn’t need Arizona to retain any of the $4.6 million remaining on the next two years of Chychrun’s contract. The deal came together in 24 hours after talks were reignited late Tuesday night.
