Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey and his wife are charged with bribery by prosecutors who say the lawmaker helped businessmen who gave then cash, gold and a car.
Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who is facing a bribery indictment, said he "will announce it when it comes time" when asked if he would formally seek reelection.
Menendez and his wife, Nadine, were charged in Manhattan federal court two weeks ago with taking bribes in the form of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gold.US Senator Bob Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey, and his wife Nadine Arslanian, arrive at the US District Court, Southern District of New York, in New York City on September 27, 2023.
"I'm not going to jeopardize any seat in New Jersey under any circumstances," Menendez said, according to NBC News. The indictment alleges Menendez used his position as chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to benefit the businessmen.
