A federal government of any stripe is now much more likely to invoke the Emergencies Act in the future against unpopular people and causes.

The failures of policing needn’t be comprehensively rehashed. The Ottawa Police Service had no idea what was coming down the highway towards them, and apparently not much interest in finding out. Once the convoy set up shop in downtown Ottawa, OPS’s general ineffectualness was exceeded only by its spectacular tactical screw-ups . Those failures cascaded through every other institution that tried to help and led to the fateful decision.
