One councillor said his children were asking him why his face was on a bonfire to be burnt
There has been widespread condemnation of "sectarian bonfires" as flags, political posters and threatening messages were burnt at sites across Northern Ireland.
"This is not culture, it is a hate crime. Those within political unionism need to show leadership and stand up against this sectarian hatred." "We are a proud community, proud of our culture and traditions. These images do nothing to further our cause.Alliance councillor Michael Long, who's wife Naomi's posters were placed on the bonfire, also condemned that actions as "nothing but pure sectarian hatred."
