Is it time to worry about vaping?
A second person who contracted lung disease after vaping has died, health officials said.
They were rushed to hospital in the state of Oregon and put on a ventilator after ‘quickly becoming very ill.’ Several of the cases involve vaping THC, the main active compound in cannabis, experts from the US Centers for Disease Control Prevention said. ‘There’s a variety of harmful ingredients identified, including things like ultrafine particulates, heavy metals like lead and cancer causing chemicals,’ he added.Electronic cigarettes have been described as a less dangerous alternative to regular cigarettes and Public Health England maintain they are a highly effective tool to help people quit smoking.
Some vaping products have also been found to contain other potentially harmful substances and a number of the flavours, such as cinnamon, vanilla and cherry, produce a toxic reaction.
