Funds raised will help support the work of a researcher at Health Sciences North Research Institute
It is the second annual Sudbury Multiple Myeloma March to support research into treatments for this form of blood cancer. The Oct. 15 event will be held at Fielding Memorial Park, 345 Fielding Rd., starting at 1:30 p.m.
“Multiple myeloma is a little-known and incurable form of blood cancer, also known as myeloma,” a press release for the event states. “It is the second most common form of blood cancer, yet it may take months or years to get diagnosed. The disease often goes undetected because signs and symptoms are often vague and as diverse as the people who have it. Sadly, delays in diagnosis can lead to poorer prognosis and additional complications that negatively impact quality of life and survival.
Dr Sathish Gopalakrishnan, a hematologist at Health Sciences North, will receive a research grant of up to 50 per cent of the march’s net proceeds. Dr. Gopalakrishnan’s team will use the funds to:
