Tanya Woo says the top issue in District 2 is public safety, and she's running for Council because she wants the CID to have a seat at the table.
A photo of Seattle City Council candidate Tanya Woo. Tanya Woo says the top issue in District 2 is public safety, and that’s she running for City Council because she wants the Chinatown-International District to have a seat at the table.
She made her case in a more than 20-minute conversation with KOMO News Senior Reporter Chris Daniels at a table in Jefferson Park. She says the park was central to her upbringing and is a place where people should be able to safely get together today. While not attacking her opponent, the incumbent Tammy Morales, Woo does claim that the police department was “demoralized” by the Council’s actions in 2020.
Woo is a throwback to the “Seattle Nice” that once labeled many of the city’s citizens. She is a longtime neighborhood volunteer, and actively campaigned against a super-sized homeless encampment in the district because she argued the district was never consulted about the move.“We have different approaches, and looking at our records, very different opinions on what we should do with the city going forward,” said Woo.
Morales was the only one of 14 City Council candidates to not accept an offer from Daniels to have an extended conversation about the campaign.
