A vehicle drives under the welcome sign on Highway 1A also known as the Bow Valley Parkway in Banff National Park 2020.Sensitive species such as grizzly bears and wolves are known to use the area to feed and raise their young, Rubeling said, adding black bears, cougars, foxes, coyotes, deer, elk and bighorn sheep also pass through regularly.
The seasonal restriction will also apply to the Bow Valley Parkway cycling experience, which starts May 1. With gates in place on both sides, the road closure will be obvious to vehicles but Rubeling said getting the message out to cyclists is important.
