Wolf, the judge wrote, “considered that it slowed down their work, and he was anxious to get the job done and move on to the next site.” In the previous five years, King Stud had been cited by OHS inspectors 10 times, including four times for fall protection violations.the incident the company was cited for failure to properly use fall protection on a lifting platform.
While it is true that this is a significant financial penalty given the small size of this employer and given lower previous penalties, the time has come to use stronger measures to deter employers like King Stud from endangering workers. It’s time we also considered “suspending” individuals who are convicted of the most egregious health and safety violations from operating a business or even supervising workers in certain sectors for a period of time., we can send a strong message to these individuals: “We will not allow your demonstrated lack of interest in health and safety to put any more workers at risk.”
