Aztecs tie USD 1-1 before a record college crowd at Snapdragon Stadium in what could become a twice annual game next season
After an enthralling 1-1 tie between rivals at Snapdragon Stadium that included a record crowd, a goal for the ages and a benches-clearing fracas at the final whistle, San Diego State men’s soccer coach Ryan Hopkins asked USD counterpart Brian Quinn about possibly playing twice next year. He did, because the announced crowd of 3,632 broke the program record for home attendance by nearly a thousand and a second game in 2024 could be played at Snapdragon.
“Just talking through all those and having a lot of conversations. I’m spending more time on scheduling than I would ever hope to spend. That’s all part of it.” The good news is scheduling in men’s soccer is a more casual process than some other sports, with most game contracts not finalized until late spring or early summer for the August through November season. They have time. “I can only control what’s going on right now,” Hopkins said.
