PORT PERRY, ONT. — The environmental advocacy group Environmental Defence has issued a statement praising Scucog, Ont. council for voting down a request for a Minister’s Zoning Order that would have fast-tracked a housing development proposal.
“This was a win for Lake Scugog and the engaged local community that rallied to block Avenu Properties’ MZO request,” stated the release. The developer has not had meaningful consultations with Indigenous people, including the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, stated Environmental Defence.
