The Canadian women's curling championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, will make its debut in the Greater Toronto Area in 2026, marking a significant milestone for the sport in Canada.

The Canadian women's curling championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, has deep roots dating back over six decades. What began as an invitational best-of-three showdown between two teams near Toronto has evolved into a prestigious 18-team competition representing every province and territory. After years of anticipation, the event will finally make its debut in the Greater Toronto Area in 2026.

The 2026 national playdowns will be held at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex in Mississauga, Ontario, starting January 23rd.The Scotties Tournament of Hearts holds a special place in Canadian sports history. The first Canadian women's curling championship was held in Ottawa in 1961, with Joyce McKee leading her Western Canada team to victory against Ruth Smith's Eastern Canada squad. Like the men's Brier, which originated in 1927, the early championships featured a round-robin format among champions from the 10 provinces. Although Toronto hosted the first 13 Brier tournaments, the event hasn't returned since 1941.The bid to bring the Scotties to Mississauga began nearly three years ago, spearheaded by the Toronto Curling Association and the Visit Mississauga marketing organization. After submitting their bid in September, the team patiently waited for the announcement. Area politicians, local, provincial, and national curling officials gathered at the sportsplex to celebrate the formal announcement. The 5,000-seat venue, home to the Raptors 905 (NBA G League) and the Toronto Rock (National Lacrosse League), is strategically located near Pearson International Airport, about 20 kilometers from downtown Toronto. The arena has previously hosted major curling events, including the Ontario men's and women's championships in 2003 and a Grand Slam of Curling event in 2009
