The Canadian women's curling championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, will be held in Mississauga, Ontario in 2026, marking its first appearance in the Greater Toronto Area.

The Canadian women's curling championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, has a history spanning over six decades. It began as a best-of-three showdown between two teams near Toronto in 1960. Today, the tournament features 18 teams representing every province and territory. After years of anticipation, the Scotties will make its debut in the Greater Toronto Area in 2026. The event will be held at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sports plex in Mississauga , Ontario , starting January 23rd.

Nolan Thiessen, the chief executive officer of Curling Canada, expressed excitement about the tournament's arrival in the GTA, highlighting its status as a cornerstone of Canadian sports. The first official Canadian women's curling championship took place in 1961 in Ottawa, with champions from the 10 provinces competing in a round-robin format. The bid to bring the Scotties to Mississauga began nearly three years ago, with the Toronto Curling Association and Visit Mississauga collaborating on the proposal. Sean Holman, co-chair of the host committee, shared the anticipation and relief of the team upon receiving confirmation of the bid. Local, provincial, and national curling officials, along with area politicians, gathered to celebrate the official announcement at the sportsplex. This 5,000-seat venue, home to the Raptors 905 (NBA G League) and the Toronto Rock (National Lacrosse League), has previously hosted major curling events, including the Ontario men's and women's championships in 2003 and a Grand Slam of Curling event in 2009.The 10-day competition will begin earlier than usual to accommodate the 2026 Milan Olympics. The Canadian women's team, ineligible to compete in the Scotties due to Olympic preparations, will set their sights on the international stage. The last time the national women's championship was held in the region was in 2017, when St. Catharines, Ontario, served as the host city. Rachel Homan from Ottawa clinched her second Scotties title that year. The Scotties field consists of 14 provincial and territorial representatives, three pre-qualified teams based on rankings, and a Canada entry for the defending champions. The 2025 Montana's Brier is scheduled to commence on February 28th in Kelowna, British Columbia. Plans for the 2026 event are yet to be announced.
