Prebiotic molecules could eventually lead to the evolution of complex alien life forms in a region surprisingly near Earth.

A team of scientists has discovered the presence of several prebiotic molecules in the star-forming region IC348 of the Perseus Molecular Cloud, a press statement reveals.

Ultimately, prebiotic molecules could one day allow life to flourish in that particular region of space.Amino acids formed the genetics of ancient microorganisms, allowing complex life to evolve on Earth. This means that figuring out the abundance of precursor molecules that lead to the formation of amino acids is vital in understanding the evolution of the cosmos.

The Perseus Cloud "is an extraordinary laboratory of organic chemistry," Susan Iglesias-Groth, from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and one of the researchers on the project, explained in

Do Earth-like exoplanets have magnetic fields? Far-off radio signal is promising signDo Earth-like exoplanets have magnetic fields? Far-off radio signal is promising signEarth's magnetic field does more than keep everyone's compass needles pointed in the same direction. It also helps preserve Earth's sliver of life-sustaining atmosphere by deflecting high energy particles and plasma regularly blasted out of the sun. Researchers have now identified a prospective Earth-sized planet in another solar system as a prime candidate for also having a magnetic field—YZ Ceti b, a rocky planet orbiting a star about 12 light-years away from Earth.
