The National Association of School Nurses has become so alarmed by the trend that the organization now advises schools nationwide to develop a Naloxone policy.A growing number of school districts nationwide are stocking up on Naloxone to treat overdoses and training community members on how to use the drug.Thirty states expressly authorize the possession and use of naloxone in K-12 schools, according to the Legislative Analysis and Public Policy Association.
"We are being impacted hard. I think what we're doing differently is we're hitting it head on," said Jeri Skrocki, a former county sheriff's deputy who now oversees safety and security at Hays Consolidated Independent School District's 26 school campuses with over 22,000 students.
