In a memo to school directors, the ministry said that if boards cannot maintain a healthy and safe operation of schools, they should make a “speedy transition” to remote learning. That learning should be synchronous, said the memo, which means students have their regular classes online. are supposed to be rallies in support of education workers. Both the NDP and Liberal parties oppose the Conservative government’s legislation.
CUPE has said that framing from the eduction minister is not accurate because the raises depend on hourly wages and pay scales, so the majority of workers who earn less than $43,000 in a year wouldn’t get 2.5 per cent. The union had initially been seeking annual salary increases of 11.7 per cent.Article content
“Bill 28 isn’t just an attack on education workers’ collective bargaining rights,” said OPSEU Sector 3 president JP Hornick in a statement. “It is an attack on all workers’ rights.”
