Cape Breton Eagles defenceman Brayden Schmitt is joined by family friends Seth and Josie MacKenzie who made the drive from Bible Hill to Sydney last week to watch Schmitt in his second and third games with his new Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team, after being acquired from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Like Schmitt, Seth is a former Truro Major U-15 Bearcats player, and this season he is playing in Edmonton for the Titans Hockey Union U-18 of the Junior Prospect U-18 Hockey League.
“It was really tough leaving a team which gave me the captaincy, but I had to do what was best for myself, my mental health, my hockey and everything, and I thought it would be for the best,” Schmitt said a couple of days after the blockbuster deal which saw the“I was a little bit surprised and happy that the trade was accepted … I am excited to be with my new team and in my new home.”
