July was a busy month for the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police: 23 car crashes, 143 traffic stops and 128 charges laid.
Among the typical charges — speeding, impaired driving and stunt driving — were some notable one-offs: littering, failing to wear a motorcycle helmet, and driving with an open container of liquor.- From July 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023, members from the Sault Ste Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police observed most motorists wearing their seatbelts and driving safely, however there were a minority of drivers who continue to engage in unsafe driving behaviour.
During the month of July, Sault Ste Marie OPP members took three impaired drivers off our roadways, responded to 23 non-life-threatening motor vehicle collisions, conducted five marine patrols, effected 146 vehicle traffic stops, laid 128 charges, responded to 62 traffic complaints, and impounded five vehicles.Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges:
