And we talk about the tragedy of my family and everything else. I try to separate that from work, because that’s a family matter. And for me, it’s just balancing everything through whether I talk to our Elders, or our support and just really focusing on trying to deal with that trauma. A: When we talk about some of these initiatives, like homelessness was never part of our job. We relied on other organizations to do that. But, our chiefs decided that it wasn’t acceptable anymore. We had to step up, and do what was right for people. When we make it a priority to treat people with humanity, we see better outcomes and results.

And when we talk about reconciliation, we’ve put on two powwows that really brought people together. And watching the non-Indigenous people be part of something that they’re still learning, like I am as a First Nations person still learning my identity, my culture, my language, we’re learning it together.A: It’s been a better location for the first three weeks that we’ve been in there.

Is it perfect? The answer’s no. But can it get perfect? We hope so. But it’s going to take some time to do it. Q: There has been some fairly vocal opposition to the wellness centre. Do you feel welcome in the community, overall?
