The Saskatoon Police Service is considering its options to increase the number of hours the police airplane can be up in the air.

The Air Support Unit flew fewer hours and responded to fewer calls for service, but managed more police pursuits . It helped find 34 vulnerable people and assisted in 295 arrests, including two people wanted on murder charges, Sgt. Wade Bourassa, the officer in charge of the unit, told the board of police commissioners on Thursday.We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.

The unit has two sergeants who are pilots and four tactical flight officers, forming two teams. It logged 1,077 hours of flight time in 2022.
