City staff plan to develop a framework for regulating private e-scooters and other forms of "micro-transport."
Saskatoon city council’s transportation committee met this week for a special session to deal with items left over from their regularly scheduledmade available to rent in the city, individual residents are not currently allowed to use their own such devices on city roads or pathways.
Magus said city staff are planning to develop one framework for all micromobility devices, rather than try and regulate them individually, noting there are potentially dozens of different devices, ranging from scooters to skateboards. Staff told the committee that an industry standard lifespan for either a diesel or electric-diesel hybrid bus is 15 years, with 800,000 kilometres of mileage.
During discussions, the committee heard that Transit has 127 vehicles, including 112 40-foot diesel buses, six 60-foot diesel buses, eight 30-foot diesels and one electric hybrid.
