A Rail Safety Week traffic project in Saskatoon helped lead to the arrest of two people wanted Canada-wide. Members of the Saskatoon Police Service recently conducted an enforcement initiative on Sept. 22.

Police say around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Avenue W South and 11 th Street, an automated license plate reader notified police of a vehicle with a suspended registered owner. Police conducted a traffic stop, and learned two passengers were both wanted Canada-wide. The first was a 27-year-old man wanted Canada-wide for assault, robbery and theft Under $5,000, out of Vancouver.

The second was a 23-year-old woman, found to be unlawfully at large out of Regina and wanted Canada-wide for breach of statutory release. Both were arrested and issued tickets for failing to wear a seatbelt. The woman also faces several other new charges. A search of the vehicle turned up bear spray, a collapsible baton and unopened alcohol.
