San Diego jury convicts man for 1969 murder of City Heights mother [Breaking]

A San Diego jury on Thursday convicted a 76-year-old man of first-degree murder for killing a City Heights mother more than a half-century ago.

Police identified Sipos as the suspect through forensic genealogy, or genetic genealogy, which has become a go-to method for frustrated cold-case detectives since 2018, when investigators used it to identify the Golden State Killer. San Diego police announced Sipos’ arrest in October 2020. At the time of Scott’s killing, he was living in San Diego after recently getting out of the Navy.

Scott’s youngest daughter, Donna M. Wyble, said in 2020 that news of Sipos’ arrest in her mother’s killing left her “totally in shock.” Wyble’s older sister, Christine, died in 1993 in a car crash.
