The team was attempting to break the record for the highest attendance game in NBA history.The Spurs set an NBA regular-season attendance record Friday when 68,323 fans packed the Alamdome for a game against the Golden State Warriors.
The previous record was 62,046 for a 1998 game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks at the Georgia Dome. The record attendance for the Spurs at the Alamodome before Friday's game was during the NBA Finals Game on June 18, 1999, when 39,554 fans watched the Spurs take on the New York Knicks.
On Thursday, the Alamodome released additional tickets that officials expected would drive attendance past 65,000. The Spurs scheduled a game at the Alamodome this season to help celebrate the team's 50th anniversary. The Spurs played at the Alamodome from 1992 to 2002.
