Ice storms and freezes in San Antonio, the NWS says these were the longest
Experts say the freezing winter weather Texas is experiencing this week isn't uncommon. Seen here is a 2006 file photo from 2006 in Shavano Park. With freezing rain, icy highways and some snow, this week’s winter storm has San Antonians on high alert, but this kind of weather is not that uncommon, experts say.
Andrew Quigley, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Bexar County, said these events have happened in the past and will continue to happen in the future. “Climatologically speaking, it’s not uncommon for once or twice a winter to get these kinds of icing events across part of South Central Texas,” Quigley said. “We do see it in Hill Country a few times a winter, and we can see it even get into the I-35 corridor. These events have happened before.”December 1983, 15 days
