That's an increase of about 600 animals. Neonate intake has increased nearly 9 percent, likely due to the community's reduced spay/neuter capacity and veterinarian access during the pandemic. The return-to-owner rates dipped from an average of 25 to 22.6 percent.
That's nonsense. I have worked in animal shelters and know the passion and commitment of the people working there. I know the exhaustion animal welfare people feel from dealing with the same problems every day and why so many of them struggle with burnout, depression and compassion fatigue. It's the result of dealing with people who don't care about animals — or dealing with people who do but who don't care about the people, whether staff or volunteers, doing this humane work.
