San Antonio city leaders took the first step on Thursday in determining the major goals and priorities to be considered when building next year's budget.

It’s San Antonio 's biggest party of the year. Fiesta 2024 is grander than ever. News 4 goes in-depth, Fiesta style. San Antonio city leaders and councilmembers took the first step on Thursday in determining what the major goals and priorities will be considered when building the city’s budget for next year.

One goal established by almost all council members was improving public safety. Councilmembers said they want to hire more police officers and firefighters, while also improving medical response capabilities within the Sam Antonio Fire Department. “This was a very disappointing thing to hear at our public safety meeting is that on any shift, there’s between six to ten animal care officers and that’s often less than the number of council districts we have and that’s absurd,” said San Antonio District 2 Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez.

Councilmembers emphasized how important it is to continue funding the Small Business Construction Mitigation Program.
