City attorney says he doesn’t trust City Council members to keep closed-door discussions about contract talks with the firefighters' union to themselves
City Attorney Andy Segovia is likely to walk away unscathed from a City Council uprising over his performance, but members are still roiling over his contention that they can't be trusted not to leak information from closed-door meetings about contract talks with the firefighters' union.

Members Melissa Cabello Havrda, Marina Alderete Gavito, Teri Castillo, Jalen McKee-Rodriguez and Marc Whyte called for the meeting with Walsh. Several of them had asked to recess into a closed-door meeting on May 8 to further discuss contract negotiations, which have stalled and could impact the city budget.
Councilman Marc Whyte’s DWI court hearing pushed again City Council has met in executive session to discuss the firefighters' union negotiations at least once. Cabello Havrda, a likely 2025 mayoral candidate who is the most outspoken of the group of five dissidents, said members leaking information from closed-door meetings has been 'a festering problem for years” that should have been corrected long ago, but the timing and manner of Segovia’s clampdown strike her as illogical.
