Pasadena native thriving as head football coach in Katy ISD

“Getting this opportunity has been like a dream come true. When I was in high school, this is something I always wanted to do. I just wanted to get a chance somewhere and I’m thankful that Katy ISD has given me this opportunity. I’ve been head coach for four, going on five seasons,” said Hamon as he stood on the Abshier Stadium sidelines in Deer Park this past weekend and watched the Spartans capture the Class 6A Region III soccer championship, wearing a Seven Lakes soccer shirt of course.
He was surrounded Saturday by strong athletes just like he was when he was growing up in Pasadena. When he was that all-star in the early 1990s, he was on a Majors team with Aaron Freisleben, the son of Dave Freisleben, the former San Diego Padres player and now a member of the Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame.
But in bi-district, Ft. Bend Ridge Point eliminated the Spartans 35-7, keeping Seven Lakes still looking for their first-ever postseason triumph. He closed with 119 attempts, third highest in the district that season, but he completed just 43. North Shore happened to be a district foe that season and the Mustangs defense that season featured linebacker Cory Redding, who would go on to get drafted and played for the Detroit Lions.
