THUNDER BAY — A city police vehicle blitz found two vehicles that had been using bungee cords to keep emergency brakes from malfunctioning.
Thunder Bay police, along with OPP and Ministry of Transportation, conducted a safety lane project on Tuesday where they targeted unsafe passenger and commercial motor vehicles on local roadways. Police said 48 inspections were conducted, which led to 36 vehicles either being deemed unfit and requiring a safety check, or were in need of repairs before returning to operation.
Many of the 12 vehicles that were deemed unfit to be on the roads were taken to a scrap yard, police added.
