The Sharks are getting the 11th overall pick, while the Sabres are acquiring two picks.
On Thursday, the Sharks acquired the 11th overall pick from the Buffalo Sabres . In return, the Sabres get the No. 14 and No. 42 picks.That gives the Sharks two picks in the opening half of the first round. San Jose already has the first-overall pick afterthat San Jose can look at adding in their second first-round pick. If they want to add to their defense, Anton Silayev is a big and heavy defenseman, while Calgary Hitmen d-man Carter Yakemchuk has the tools to make him a two-way asset.
The Sabres also have nine as a result of the transaction. The 14th overall pick came to San Jose as part of the Erik Karlsson trade last August. The No. 42 selection went to the Sharks in the February 2023 trade that saw Scott Harrington and Timo Meier go to the New Jersey Devils. Buffalo possesses the 42nd and 43rd picks in the draft.
Buffalo will have similar options to consider with their only pick in the first round, with Oshawa Generals forward Beckett Sennecke also in the conversation. Tri-City Storm forward Trevor Connolly and the USNTDP’s Teddy Stiga could also be viable options if scoring is what Kevyn Adams wants to address in this draft.
With back-to-back selections in round two, the Sabres have a good chance to address multiple needs. Defensemen Jesse Pulkkinen and Leo Sahlin Wallenius might be players worth taking a stab at, as well as scoring threats in Tanner Howe and Maxim Masse .
