The Canadian Brewhouse & Grill in Saanich has been fined $7,000 for allowing a customer to drink beer in its dry bowling area. This is the third time the restaurant has been penalized for this infraction within 24 months. Liquor inspectors observed the customer entering and exiting the bowling alley with a beer multiple times, despite staff being present. The restaurant claims to have taken steps to prevent this from happening again, including firing managers and providing staff training, but the LCRB delegate deemed these actions insufficient.

A restaurant at Uptown Shopping Centre in Saanich is on the hook for a $7,000 fine for allowing a customer to drink in its dry bowling area – the third such occurrence to happen within 24 months.

The liquor inspectors say the customer exited and re-entered the bowling alley several times with the beer, and that one staff member was seen walking by multiple times without mentioning anything. Before that, The Canadian Brewhouse & Grill also had three compliance meetings with the LCRB for similar events. During these meetings, liquor workers offered advice on how to prevent people from drinking in the bowling alley area, such as putting up signs., The Canadian Brewhouse & Grill admitted to the September event occurring, but said it had taken steps to try to prevent people from drinking in the bowling alley – such as firing four managers who had failed to enforce the policy.

The Canadian Brewhouse & Grill ultimately asked for a lower fine, or to have its liquor licence suspended for three or four days, saying that a $7,000 fine could cause the business to close, affecting about 80 jobs.
