Saanich Police says a vehicle that was stolen during a carjacking on Halloween night has been located, but the suspect remains at large.

The carjacking occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 31 when the driver of the vehicle was preparing to leave the drive-thru of a McDonald’s near Uptown mall.

Police say the suspect, who was wearing a mask and dressed all in black, approached the car, opened the driver’s side door, “indicated that they had a weapon” and demanded that the driver exit the vehicle. The suspect then got inside and drove away. Police say the owner of the vehicle was “shaken” but physically unharmed.Saanich Police says the vehicle, a black 2002 Honda Civic, was located on Nov. 2 just before 6 a.m. in the 1700-block of Swartz Bay Road, with assistance from the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.Investigators continue to ask anyone with dashcam video on Oct. 31 near the intersection of Saanich Road and Oak Street around 6:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, anyone who was in the area of Swartz Bay Road and Wain Road around 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Nov. 2, or who has dashcam video from that time, is also asked to email the Saanich Police major crimes team as well.Adam Chan is a Digital News Editor who joined CHEK News in 2023.
