The reason? The Russo brothers are committed to growing AGBO, their $1 billion entertainment company, into a game-changing force in Hollywood and beyond.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Joe and Anthony Russo have made four films for Marvel. Their most recent, 2019′s “Avengers: Endgame,” is the second highest-grossing movie of all time. But don’t expect the Cleveland-born directors to return to the MCU anytime soon.Variety cover storyThat’s because the Russo Brothers are committed to growing AGBO, their $1 billion entertainment company, into a game-changing force in Hollywood and beyond.
Variety reports the goal of the company, which includes sister Angela Russo-Otstot, who serves as AGBO’s chief creative officer, is to produce ambitious and original projects that not only appeal to wide audiences but also have the potential to be spun off into different stories on different platforms. That’s vital in an age when storytelling and technology are veering away from the traditional theatergoing experience.
“Things are changing fast, which we’re very excited by,” Anthony told Variety. “We’re futurists. We love new technology. We love the energy that it brings to our process, the possibilities that it creates for how we communicate with audiences. Then we meet the market where it is at that moment. That’s been our agenda from the beginning, and it’s served us very well.”
The article provides updates on the Russos’ latest projects including “The Electric State,” a sci-fi film they’re directing for Netflix starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown; “The Citadel,” a world-building spy series for Prime Video headlined by Priyanka Chopra Jonas; and a live-action remake of Disney’s “Hercules” directed by Guy Ritchie, a film Joe said will be “a little bit more experimental in tone, a little bit more experimental in execution.
