Russian Olympic Committee leads artistic swimming event with spider-themed routine; Canadians fifth in prelims Tokyo2020
Taking place at the newly built Tokyo Aquatics Centre, the battle for medals is widely expected to play out between the ROC, China, Japan and Ukraine.The routine for the ROC team — Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Svetlana Romashina — started with a mishap when the music didn’t play as they held a spider-like pose amid an awkward silence.
Russia’s Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Russia’s Svetlana Romashina compete in the preliminary for the women’s duet free artistic swimming event.Romashina has earned five gold medals in her career and hopes to add two more to her tally in the team and duet events.
The Canadian team of Claudia Holzner and Jacqueline Simoneau scored 91.2333 points in the preliminary competition to finish in fifth.
