LONDON — Most people sleep on transatlantic flights.The Denver quarterback, held out of Sunday’s game because of a hamstring injury, said he spent half of the team’s eight-hour charter doing stretches and exercises and receiving treatment to try to keep making progress for a return to the field here Sunday against Jacksonville.
Wilson said he wanted to play against the Jets last Sunday but ultimately head coach Nathaniel Hackett and the team’s training staff opted to hold him back. Hackett on Wednesday wouldn’t say categorically that Wilson will return when Denver plays Sunday against Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium, but he did continue to say that the 11-year veteran is trending in the right direction.“I feel great,” he said. “Ready to roll. I’m super locked in and ready to hopefully get a big win in London.
“He did quite a bit,” Hackett said of Wilson’s practice workload. “… We want to be smart with him. We don’t want anything to happen in practice. We want to make sure he’s continually getting healthy and helping himself, so we don’t want any setbacks. We know he can run out, we know he can throw, so he’s going to be sure to take care of himself.”
“I was ready to roll. I’ve played with a lot over my career,” Wilson said. “Anytime you’re not out there, I take it serious. I always want to be out on the field. It was tough not being out there. I want to help us win and get on a hot streak and just get us rolling. We have a team that can do that.
