Looking for a sweet treat after a long week? Try RushPatisserie in Oak Cliff. It is owned by the classically trained patissier, Samantha Rush, who baked writer Maya Angelou's 80th birthday cake, and it made our restaurant guide for a reason.

From the classically trained patissier who baked writer Maya Angelou's 80th birthday cake and has a top-selling dessert item in the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog, comes this Oak Cliff establishment. Owner Samantha Rush originally opened her eponymous shop in 2007 in Deep Ellum but moved the operation to its current location in 2009.

The tranquil patisserie, awash in blues with white and black accents, exudes an elegant setting for equally elegant -- but offbeat -- treats. These include her signature Un-Cupcakes, a deconstructed version of a cupcake presented in a jar. Among the eight flavors available are the popular red velvet, the classic chocolate ganache and whimsical wedding cake.
